This is a new (NOS) Sony C-36P true condenser microphone, 48v powering, complete with case, microphone clip and pop filter.
At the time Sony were manufacturing professional microphones, in the 1980s, their range included these top flight microphones which were the match for any other of the other top manufacturers products. Several of their microphones were innovative in their design and function.
I initially bought five of these microphones, four of them found their way into my microphone case for classical location recording, but the one for sale here never made it into the case, and was kept in storage and never used, which is why it is now up for sale.
The C-36P cardiod microphone is one of their small capsule condensers and has one of the best (if not the best) transient responses I have heard in any microphone. The quality of the transient response of the C-36Ps enables an engineer to pull back from an instrument without losing the immediacy of its sound. This is very useful for spot miking larger instruments such as xylophones, marimbas etc. enabling the whole range of the instrument to be covered. They are often chosen over the Neumann KM84.
