After becoming convinced of the merits of active speakers, and not being able to afford active HiFi speakers, I got these to use with a KRK 10″ sub (not included), with DAC/preamp feeding them.
After a lifetime of using relatively high-end amps and passive speakers, I could not believe the quality of the sound coming from a relatively speaking inexpensive pair of monitors. CD after CD was a revelation. The imaging is absolutely pin sharp, almost 3D, and they are amazingly transparent with a very neutral but punchy signature sound. Bass is not extended, as you’d expect from 5″ woofers, but they certainly punch above their weight and do not sound at all thin, even when used without the sub. While no-one would describe these as the most attractive speakers in the world, they are not entirely repellant either.The units, though used, are in excellent condition as they’ve been wall mounted almost since the day I got them. Mounts use padded clamps, so no screw holes in the enclosure, and they are out of the sun so no fading. For that reason and to avoid taking the mountings apart I’ve used a stock photo as the main photo, plus a front view of a single unit. I am more than happy to provide photos of both from any angle, though, if you need reassurance of their condition.There are tons of rave reviews of these on web, and they’re all right. I could never go back to passive speakers now; if you’ve been thinking about making the transition to active, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you do, even if it’s not with these.
