Built from a kit some 40 plus years ago (Service Trading Super Hylite) when I dabbled in making lighting equipment for discos and theatres, but mothballed as a spare.Added reflector and cased in surplus silver hammer finish steel ex-equipment case, so some slight marksNow clearing workshop, but when I tried it the main capacitors started to fizzThe original kits had 3x8mfd paper capacitors, but the kit had a tendency to overheat the ceramic power resistors, so Service Trading then supplied only 2 main capacitors to reduce the power output from 6 joules to 4. However, this is still enough for a large room or stage.Unfortunately the new capacitors were not as good as the ones supplied earlier !!So it needs two 8mfd 750v or more high discharge (eg paper ) capacitors. It worked fine when put away for storage so this should be all it needs1 to 12 fps with speed control on rearWith the strobe are the kit instructions, a spare PCB populated except for unijunction, thyristor and ignition coil, a couple of spare ignition coils and my stock of 6 additional strobe tubes – 2 or 3 new and the others used – I cannot test as I have no working strobe !The unit is heavy – 10KG – as it contains a hefty 500v transformer so you can save courier costsĀ if you collect and pay in cash
